No llevan “a” ni “the”. I'll es I will, dicho junto: I'll be with you. Detrás va el verbo solo, sin to. Atender a un huésped no es attend.
Good morning / afternoon / evening. + el siguiente paso
Good morning. Welcome.
Buenos días. Bienvenido.
Hasta mediodía. Welcome abre la puerta. No hace falta más.
Good afternoon. How can I help?
Buenas tardes. ¿En qué le ayudo?
How can I help? no decide por ellos si es reserva o pregunta.
Good evening. Are you checking in?
Buenas noches. ¿Viene a hacer el check-in?
De noche, al entrar. No good night. Are you + -ing es esta visita.
No es esto
I attend you now.
I'll be with you in a moment.
Have you got · Are you · or
La pregunta lleva have delante: Have you got a booking? No se queda en “You have?”.
Si no sabes si vienen a registrarse, no empieces el check-in. Dos caminos, con or: Are you checking in, or is it just a question? Just on the left es el sitio, no un discurso.
Have you got a booking? · A, or B?
Have you got a booking?
¿Tiene reserva?
Have you got es la pregunta. Booking es la reserva.
Are you checking in, or is it just a question?
The lift is just on the left.
El ascensor está justo a la izquierda.
Lift, en británico. Un sitio concreto. Con eso basta.
No es esto
You have a reserve?
Have you got a booking?
Reserve no es la reserva. Y la pregunta no se queda en “you have”. Have va delante.
I'm with · I'll be with you
Si ya tienes a alguien delante, lo dices en presente: I'm with another guest. I'm es I am. Y en la misma frase, la promesa: I'll be with you in one moment.
You're next da el turno. If you're just asking abre un lado para la pregunta corta, y el check-in no se para.
I'm with another guest. I'll be with you in one moment.
I'm with another guest. I'll be with you in one moment.
Estoy con otro huésped. Le atiendo en un momento.
Dices con quién estás. No sueltas al de delante.
Thank you for waiting. You're next.
Gracias por esperar. Es usted el siguiente.
La espera, y el turno. Las dos cosas.
If you're just asking a question, I can help you on this side.
If + presente. Separas la pregunta del check-in.
No es esto
Wait, I am occupied.
I'm with another guest. I'll be with you in one moment.
Occupied no eres tú. Wait solo suena a orden. I'm with dice el hecho, I'll dice el siguiente paso.
You can · is from · I'll call
El primer minuto
You can + verbo es un permiso, no una orden: You can leave the cases just here. You can wait just here. Cases o bags. No hace falta suitcase si no te sale.
La hora del registro es un hecho, en presente: Check-in is from three o'clock. Is, no “is starting”. No adelantes la habitación. I'll call you when the room is ready es la promesa, con when + presente, no con will. The wifi in the lobby is on this card.
You can + verbo · Check-in is from · I'll call you when…
Check-in is from three o'clock.
El check-in es a partir de las tres.
Is from: la hora ya está. No prometes antes.
You can leave the cases just here.
Pueden dejar las maletas aquí mismo.
You can + verbo. Un sitio concreto.
I'll call you when the room is ready.
Les llamo cuando la habitación esté lista.
When + presente. Is ready, no will be ready.
No es esto
Pass to the salon.
You can wait just here, by reception.
Salon no es el vestíbulo. Pass no es pasar. You can + un sitio real.
En el turno
Tres situaciones. Una frase.
1Son las 8:40. Entra una pareja con maletas. Tú estás en la puerta.
Good night. What do you want?
Good morning. Welcome. Are you checking in?
I attend you now.
Morning cubre las 8:40. Welcome abre. Are you checking in? no da el registro por hecho.
You have a reserve? Elevator, yes or no.
Have you got a booking, or is it just a question?
Tell me. You want?
Pass to the salon. The room is yours.
Wait. I am occupied with the hour.
Check-in is from three o'clock. You can wait just here.
Is from dice la hora. You can dice dónde esperar. No adelantas la habitación.
2
El check-in
- Double o twin
- Un cambio
What name · Could you spell · I've got
Preguntas el nombre de la reserva: What name is the booking under? What name, no “how you call”. Under es “a nombre de”.
Si no coincide, se deletrea. El verbo es spell: Could you spell that for me? Could you es la petición cortés. No es “how do you write”. Tú lo devuelves letra a letra: Is it Carter, C-A-R-T-E-R? I've got es I have got: ya lo tienes en pantalla. I can't see that name deja la puerta abierta: Is it under another guest?
What name is the booking under? · Could you spell that?
What name is the booking under?
¿A qué nombre está la reserva?
Under: a nombre de. No es “how are you called”.
Could you spell that for me, please?
¿Me lo deletrea, por favor?
Spell. Letra a letra. Could you, no “repeat your letters”.
I've got the booking on the screen.
Tengo la reserva en la pantalla.
I've got = I have got. Ya está. No hace falta buscar más.
No es esto
How you call yourself?
What name is the booking under?
What name, y under.
You're arriving · you're leaving
You're arriving today, and leaving on Friday.
El número de noches se cierra con That's, y una pregunta corta: That's three nights. Is that right? Check-out is at eleven. Is at, la hora fija. I can change the dates if the room is free. If + presente. No prometas el cambio antes de mirar.
You're arriving… and leaving… · That's three nights. Is that right?
You're arriving today, and leaving on Friday.
Llega hoy y sale el viernes.

You're arriving today, and you're leaving on Friday.
Enter y exit no son el check-in. Arrive y leave sí. You're + -ing: esta estancia.
A double · a twin
Would you prefer a double or a twin? Prefer, no “want”. Si no es lo que pidieron: I can move you to a twin if one is free. If one is free va siempre. La planta, en británico: the ground floor es la planta baja, the first floor la de encima. The room is on the third floor. Here's your key.
It's a double: one large bed. · A twin is two single beds.
It's a double room: one large bed.
Es una double: una cama grande.
It's presenta la habitación.

I can move you to a twin if one is free.
I can + if one is free. No lo das por hecho.
No es esto
A matrimonial, or two individuals.
A double, or a twin?
I can request · if it's free
I can request… Request es pedir. I put you no existe.
Would you like early check-in, a late check-out, or a quiet room? Early check-in is from one, if the room is free. I don't want to promise it yet. Away from the lift es “lejos del ascensor”, el dato concreto de la habitación tranquila.
I can request… · Let me check. I don't want to promise it yet.
Would you like early check-in, a late check-out, or a quiet room?
¿Quiere entrada anticipada, salida tardía o una habitación tranquila?
Tres cosas reales. Would you like. Una, no las tres a la vez.
I can request a quiet room, away from the lift.
Request, no “I put”. Away from the lift es el dato.
Let me check. I don't want to promise it yet.
I put you a silence room and a late exit.
I can request a quiet room, and a late check-out. Let me check if it's free.
Silence room y late exit no se dicen. I put you no es una oferta. Request, y miras antes.

Tres situaciones. Una frase.
1No encuentras el nombre a la primera. La huésped espera en el mostrador.
How you call yourself? Write it.
What name is the booking under? Could you spell that for me?
Your name is wrong. Another person.
What name busca la reserva.
You're arriving today, and leaving on Friday. That's two nights. Is that right?
You enter today and you exit on Friday.
The dates are maybe. I give the key.
Arriving y leaving. That's cuenta las noches. Is that right? deja corregir.
Aún no has mirado si hay.
I put you a silence room and a late exit. Done.
Yes. Everything is free. I promise.
I can request a quiet room, and a late check-out. Let me check. I don't want to promise it yet.

La estancia
La habitación, la espera, una sugerencia
Durante la estancia bastan how is, I'm sorry about, el perfecto de quien ya esperó, y una sugerencia que se puede rechazar.
- Cómo está la habitación
- Cuando algo no va bien
- Quien lleva rato en recepción
- Sugerir sin empujar
How is · Do you need
Cómo está la habitación
How is the room? es la pregunta. How, no “how you find”. Habitación no se deja en español. Is everything all right? es la segunda, si la primera no basta.
I'll send someone up to have a look. Up es subir a la planta. Have a look es echar un vistazo, no “revise the installation”. El número y la planta van juntos: You're in 412, on the fourth floor.
How is the room? · Is everything all right?

I'll + verbo. Up: a la habitación. No prometes que lo arreglas tú.
No es esto
How you find the habitación?
How is the room?
Habitación no se deja en español. “How you find” no es la pregunta. How is the room basta.
I'm sorry about · I'll sort
I'm sorry about that. About that es “por eso”, sin discutir si tienen razón.
I'll sort it out es encargarte. Sort out, dos palabras. El siguiente paso es concreto: I'll send someone up. I'll tell maintenance now. Maintenance es mantenimiento. I can move you to another room if one is free. Otra vez el if.
I'm sorry about that. I'll sort it out.
I'm sorry about that. I'll sort it out.
Lo siento. Me encargo.

Sort it out es encargarte.
I'm sorry you've been waiting
Quien ya lleva rato
“Since a long time” no es inglés. Quien ya esperó va en presente perfecto: I'm sorry you've been waiting. You've been es you have been.
Después, el presente de este momento: I can see you now. You're next. How can I help? Was it about the room, or something else? Thank you for waiting. I'll deal with this now. Deal with es ocuparte. What you want, aquí, suena a reproche.
I'm sorry you've been waiting. I can see you now.
I'm sorry you've been waiting.
Siento que haya estado esperando.
You've been + -ing: desde que llegó hasta ahora.
I can see you now.

Now es este momento. La cola ya no es su problema.
Was it about the room, or something else?
Or, dos caminos.
No es esto

I'm sorry you've been waiting. How can I help?
Since a long time no se dice. You've been waiting es la espera. What you want suena a reproche.
If you'd like · no pressure
Sugerir sin empujar
No se obliga. If you'd like it es “si le apetece”. You'd es you would. Se puede decir que no. Breakfast is from seven to ten es el dato. No pressure. Just so you know. paras ahí.
Si dicen que no: Of course. I'll leave it as it is. Late exit no es late check-out. I can request a late check-out, if you need the morning. We don't serve food here. Breakfast is from seven to ten. I can give you the restaurant's number.

How is the room? Do you need anything else?
The room is perfect. You don't complain.
How is abre. Do you need deja que digan que no. No invades.
That is not my problem. Reclaim at direction.
You exaggerate the cold. Sleep with the window.
I'm sorry about that. I'll send someone up.
Sorry about no discute. I'll send someone up es el paso.
3Ofreces el late check-out.
Of course. I'll leave it as it is.
I obligate you the late exit. It is better.
No. You need the morning. I put it.
Of course acepta el no. I'll leave it: no insistes, no lo apuntas.

- La cuenta
- Los extras
- Tarjeta o efectivo
- Hasta la próxima
The bill · I'll print

No inventas cargos, y tampoco dices “I invent”. Nombras la línea: This line is the minibar. This is the late check-out, as we arranged. As we arranged es “como quedamos”. Breakfast was charged for two.
Si no es suyo: I can take that line off if it isn't yours. If it isn't, presente. I'll check it with housekeeping before you pay. Housekeeping es pisos. No digas “the floors”. Before you pay pone el orden: primero miras, luego cobran.

Luego la salida, con or: Have you got another card, or would you like to pay in cash? Would you like to pay by card or in cash? es la pregunta de antes, cuando aún no ha fallado. You can tap the card, or put in the PIN. I'll try it once more, if you like. Once more es una vez. No cinco.

We hope you enjoyed your stay. Enjoyed, pasado: la estancia ya fue. Have a good trip. Trip es el viaje de vuelta. You're welcome back any time. I'll call a taxi if you need one.

Hace falta didn't catch, put this right, brief en la cola, y put you on hold en el teléfono.
- No entendí, y está bien
- Una queja
- La hora punta
- El teléfono
I didn't catch · Could you
No entendí, y está bien
Catch, aquí, es oír. I didn't catch that. Repeat solo suena a orden.
Could you say that again, more slowly? Could you spell the name for me? Y si oíste la mitad: Do you mean the room, or the bill? Let me repeat it back cierra mejor que fingir. Let me repeat it back. You're leaving on Thursday. Is that right?
I didn't catch that. Could you say it again, more slowly?
I'm sorry, I didn't catch that.
Perdone, no lo he oído.
Catch = oír, aquí. Una disculpa corta, no un discurso.
Could you say that again, more slowly?
¿Puede decirlo otra vez, más despacio?
Could you pide. More slowly es el cómo. No es “repeat”.
Do you mean the room, or the bill?

Didn't catch, y could you.
I'd like to put this right
I'm sorry this has happened.
I'd like to put this right. I'd like es I would like: quieres, sin “I will fix your life”. I'll look into it now. Look into es mirarlo de verdad. I'll speak to the manager and I'll come back to you. Thank you for telling me va en serio, y luego haces el paso. No es sarcasmo.
I'd like to put this right. I'll look into it now.
I'm sorry this has happened.
Siento que haya pasado esto.
Has happened. No discutes si “de verdad” pasó.
I'd like to put this right.

No le digas que exagera. Reclamation no hace falta. Put this right, y lo miras ahora.
There's a queue · I'll keep this brief
Breve, no borde
Queue es la cola, en británico. Brief es breve. There's a short queue, so I'll keep this brief.
I'll check people in first. Questions, I can take just here. Separas, como en la puerta. I'll finish this check-in, then I'm with you. Then + presente: el orden. Thank you for your patience. Patience es la paciencia. I can help the next guest, please. cierra a uno y abre al siguiente, sin un grito.
There's a queue, so I'll keep this brief.

Termino este check-in y estoy con usted.
Then pone el orden. I'm with you es el presente que viene.
Thank you for your patience.
Fast. I have many. You, speak short.
There's a queue, so I'll keep this brief. I'll still sort it out.
Puedes ser breve sin ser borde. Queue y brief. I'll still: lo resuelves igual.
Put you on hold · who's calling
How can I help? Who's calling, please? Who's es who is. No es “who you are”.
Could I put you on hold for a moment? Put you on hold. “Put you the phone” no existe. I'll take a message and I'll ask them to call you back. A quien tienes delante también se le habla, antes o después: Thank you for holding. I'm with a guest at the desk, and I'm back with you now. At the desk es en el mostrador.
Could I put you on hold? · Who's calling?
Reception, good afternoon. How can I help?
Recepción, buenas tardes. ¿En qué le ayudo?
El sitio primero. Luego la hora. Luego la ayuda.
Could I put you on hold for a moment?
¿Puedo ponerle en espera un momento?
On hold. Could I pregunta. No cuelgas sin decirlo.
Who's calling, please?
¿Quién llama, por favor?
Who's calling. No “who you are”.
No es esto
I put you the phone on hold. Who you are?
Reception, good afternoon. Could I put you on hold for a moment?
Put you on hold es la forma. Who's calling, no “who you are”. Y dices que es recepción.
En el turno
Tres situaciones. Una frase.
1El nombre de la reserva se te escapa. Hay ruido en el vestíbulo. No finjas.
I don't understand nothing. Repeat.
I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. Could you say it again, more slowly?
What? Loud. Your name is bad.
Didn't catch es no oírlo. Could you pide despacio. Sin doble negativo y sin orden.
2Hay cola.
Fast. I have many. You, speak short.
There's a short queue, so I'll keep this brief. I'll still sort it out.
Come tomorrow. The queue is the boss.
Brief no es borde. So explica la prisa.
Reception, good afternoon. Could I put you on hold for a moment? I'm with a guest at the desk.
I put you the phone. Who you are? Wait, occupied.
No phones. The desk is closed to calls.

Could I · I'd like to be considered
Pedir el turno, sin discurso
“I am the best” no se puede demostrar en una frase, y cierra la conversación. Pides que te tengan en cuenta: I'd like to be considered for the late shift. I'd like es cortés. Considered for es “tenido en cuenta para”. No pides el título del hotel.
Antes, el momento: Could I have a moment when you're free? When you're free, presente. El hecho va en presente, porque ya es tu trabajo: I already cover check-in, the bill, and the phone, in English. I'm not asking you to decide now. Thank you for hearing me. Hearing, no “listening my speech”.
I'd like to be considered for the late shift.
Could I have a moment when you're free?
¿Tiene un momento cuando pueda?
Could I abre. When you're free no le para el sábado en medio del check-in.
I'd like to be considered for the late shift.
Considered for. No “give me” y no “I am the best”.
I'm not asking you to decide now.
I want more money because I am the best of the hotel.
Could I have a moment? I'd like to be considered for the late shift.
“The best” no se demuestra en una frase. Pides que te tengan en cuenta. Could I abre el momento.
I cover · I don't manage
Lo que haces en un turno
Responsible of all no es un puesto. Cover es cubrir. El trabajo habitual va en presente simple, y el sujeto eres tú, sin -s: I check guests in, and I close the bill. I answer the phone and I take messages.
I handle complaints without calling the manager every time. I run the desk on my shift. Run the desk es llevar el mostrador. No digas “I am the director” si no lo eres.
I cover reception: check-in, the bill, and the phone.
I work on reception, on the early shift.
On reception. On the early shift. Dos on, dos datos.
I check guests in, and I close the bill.
Hago el check-in y cierro la cuenta.
Presente. Check in, dos palabras, es el verbo. El nombre era check-in.
I don't manage the hotel. I run the desk on my shift.
No dirijo el hotel. Llevo el mostrador en mi turno.
El límite te hace de fiar. Run the desk no es un cargo inventado.
No es esto
I am the responsible of all.
I cover reception: check-in, the bill, and complaints, in English.
Responsible of all no es un puesto. Cover, y las tareas. En presente, porque ya las haces.
I've been · pasado del caso
Diez minutos, tres datos
No digas “my actual work”. I work on reception. I've been at this hotel for two years. I've been es el tiempo hasta hoy. For two years, no “since two years”.
I'm applying for the late shift on the desk. Applying for es optar. El caso difícil va en pasado, porque ya pasó: Last Saturday the card was declined. I offered another card, then cash. If I don't understand, I ask them to say it again. If + presente, otra vez. I'd like the shift because I can already run it. I don't need a new title.
I've been here two years. · Last Saturday + pasado.
I work on reception. I've been at this hotel for two years.
Trabajo en recepción. Llevo dos años en este hotel.
Work, hábito. I've been for: el tiempo hasta hoy.
Last Saturday the card was declined. I offered another card, then cash.
El sábado pasado la tarjeta no pasó. Ofrecí otra tarjeta y luego efectivo.
Was, offered: pasado cerrado. Un caso, no “many experiences”.
If I don't understand, I ask them to say it again.
Si no entiendo, pido que lo repitan.
If + presente. Don't understand, no “don't understand nothing”.
No es esto
My actual work is receptionist and I have many experiences.
I work on reception. I've been here two years. I'd like the late shift.
Actual significa “real”, no “de ahora”. Many experiences no es un oficio. Puesto, tiempo y turno.
You're taking over · it is not
You're taking over. Three arrivals are still to come. Are still: siguen pendientes. Room 305 is waiting for maintenance. The late check-out in 210 is agreed, until one. The bill for 118 is still open. The card was declined.
It shows I finished six modules of hotel reception English. It is not a letter from my employer. It is not, separado, cuando corriges. No es una carta de tu jefe, ni un sello, ni un cargo.
You're taking over. · It's a training reference. It is not a letter.
You're taking over. Three arrivals are still to come.
Tomas el turno. Quedan tres llegadas.
You're taking over nombra a quien entra. Are still: lo que queda.
The bill for 118 is still open. The card was declined.
La cuenta de la 118 sigue abierta. La tarjeta no pasó.
Is still open, ahora. Was declined, el motivo, ya pasó.
It's a training reference. It is not a letter from my employer.
Es una referencia de formación. No es una carta de mi empresa.

I work on reception. I've been at this hotel for two years. I run the desk on my shift. I don't manage the hotel.
I have many experiences, always, perfectly.

All good. Nothing. I go.
This paper is a letter from the boss. The hotel is yours.
You're taking over. Three arrivals are still to come. The bill for 118 is still open. The card was declined.
Quién entra, qué llegadas quedan, qué cuenta sigue, y por qué. Presente, y el pasado que lo explica.

La limpieza
La puerta, el pasillo, la habitación
Quien limpia usa cuatro formas: housekeeping en la puerta, would you like en el pasillo, I'm so sorry si hay alguien, y I can't si la avería no es suya.
- Llamar antes de entrar
- El huésped en el pasillo
- Si hay alguien dentro
- Lo que no arreglas tú
Housekeeping · May I
May I clean the room now? May I pide permiso. La llave sigue quieta hasta el sí. If now is a bad time, I'll come back. If + presente, y I'll para lo que harás. I'll come back later acepta y te vas. I'll only be a few minutes es cuánto tardas, cuando ya dijeron que sí. No das órdenes: no “stay inside”, no “don't move”.
Housekeeping. May I clean the room now?
Housekeeping.
Limpieza.
El aviso. No “the cleaning”. No “room service”.

Housekeeping. May I clean the room now?

Would you like · now or later
En el pasillo, sin empujar
“You want that I…” no se dice. La oferta es Would you like, con dos opciones de verdad: Would you like the room cleaned now, or later? Cleaned es el participio: la habitación, limpiada. Él elige.
Do you need more towels? I can leave the towels here. Las toallas no necesitan que entres. I'll skip the room if you'd rather not be disturbed. Skip es saltártela. You'd rather es “si prefiere”. What time would suit you?
Would you like the room cleaned now, or later?

I'm so sorry · I thought
I thought the room was empty.
I'll come back later. I didn't mean to disturb you. Please excuse me. Y sales. “I enter wrong” no existe. “I look the room” tampoco.
I'm so sorry. I thought the room was empty. I'll come back later.

I can't · I'll let reception know
Lo que no arreglas tú
No eres el técnico. I can't fix that myself. Can't es el límite, en presente. I'll let reception know. Let someone know es avisar. Reception es recepción. Ellos llaman a mantenimiento.
Someone will come and look at it. I can't give you a time yet. Al irte: Is there anything else you need before I go? Before I go cierra tú, con una pregunta, no con una promesa.
I can't fix that myself. I'll let reception know.
